About us
We are a group of three students attending the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY. We are bound together by a shared captivation with local biodiversity as well as by a group project.
Our mission
As a group, we have adopted the task of monitoring and documenting the species that we encounter in and around the city of Syracuse in order to raise awareness and appreciation for the rich variety of life that coexists with us in our sprawling urban areas.
Meet the naturalists
Sam Capone
As a birder and fisherman from suburban New Jersey, I have been provided with fantastic opportunities to explore the variety of life that persists around our human settlements, and will continue to explore our planet's diversity. |
Andrew Ferguson
Growing up in both urban and rural areas of New York has allowed me to appreciate the diversity with which we coexist. I am now dedicated to making sure our urban wildlife gets the attention it deserves. |
Ethan Maitra
Even though I only started birding in 2015 and looking for other life shortly after that, I've still managed to get a good record of the life around Long Island, NY. I have managed to see well over 2000 species of plants, animals and fungi in my travels across the island, ranging from rare plants in the remote Long Island Pine Barrens to invasive moths in New York City. |
